Our Beautiful Trees
California Fan Palm
The California Fan Palm or CA Fan Hybrid Palm Trees are the best suited for the St. Geoge Area where we have a USDA Temperature Zone 8a-b. These trees are the hardiest of Palms and can withstand temperatures down to 11 degrees F for up to 3 days.
They are the Palm Trees most often chosen by customers of Mesa Palms. You will always find a nice selection of these trees in stock at our farm (see the pictures of our Palm Groves located in Southern AZ and CA.)
Currently we also have a nice selection of mature Pindo Palms which are also cold hearty. These very slow growing Palms are the favorite for some customers.
The Mexican Fan Palm is also planted in St. George. These Palms aren't quite as cold hearty as the CA Fan Palms or the Hybrids, but many people like the Mexican Fan Palm and we do bring them to our farm if requested.
Med Fan Palms
The Mediterranean Fan Palm is a definite favorite in St. George...especially if they have multi-stems. They give a beautiful rounded look to any garden.
Med Fans look stunning when planted in a group of Palms (for example a 6ft. CA Fan Palm next to a 4 ft. CA Fan Palm with a nice Med Fan Planted in front of it. This configuration also looks great in the corner of a yard.
Magnolias
We have a nice selection of Little Gem Magnolias at the farm right now. These trees blossom with beautiful 4" white flowers in the Spring and have a large "waxy" looking leaf that is glossy green on top and purple-brown underneath. They are a popular ornamental tree of choice.
These trees tend to do best where there is some shade, but mostly sun throughout the day (a minimum of 4 hours). They also grow well in our acidic, clay soil and have moderate drought tolerance.
The tree grows at a slow rate - less than 12" per year and maximizes its height at 15-20 ft.
You may want to show off your Little Gem in the front of your house, or they look great on decks and patios.
Pindo Palm
The Pindo Palm tends to be a favorite with our residents coming from California. These palms grow very slowly (we just planted some that were only 6 ft. tall and have been growing since 1999!) and mature in their height from 15 - 20 Ft.
These palms stand out because of their stunning appearance, cold hardiness, and beautiful yellow organic fruits. These palms are quite a bit more expensive due to their slow growth, but they have a smooth appearance with blue-green fronds and look really great at the poolside.
The Pindo is amongst the most popular southern Palm Trees. They are hardy and can live to....get this....80 years! A nice selection of Pindo Palms are currently available at our farm. Stop by and see them!
Blue Atlas Cedar
Blue Atlas Cedars are one of our favorite conifers and they grow well in our climate. They are heat and cold-tolerant and all-around beautiful trees. They have a rich, blue color and soft needles. They tend to branch fully around the entire tree. The trees are special ordered and arrive in a 24" box. They are typically 10' - 12' tall and beautiful!
Golden Raintree
These trees have a beautiful canopy. They flower in the summer with small, brilliant yellow flowers. They are great for smaller backyards.
They are easy to grow and hardy enough to survive our high alkaline soil or clay often found in St. George. The tree is rarely attacked by insects and is drought tolerant which makes them a great tree for St. George.
Red Push Pistache
This beautiful tree provides ample summer shade with its deep green canopy followed by vibrantly displayed "Red Push" fall colors. They are hardy and a favorite tree for many in St. George.
Purple Robe Locust
These beautiful trees sprout amazing clusters of purple blooms in the Spring and grow at a fast rate. They provide great shade and are very hardy and drought-tolerant.
Oklahoma Red Bud
This tree is a personal favorite! It is also known as a "landscape specimen tree." In the Spring, this tree blossoms with vibrant, petite, purple-red flowers. In the summer, the canopy turns a rich, green color and is rounded. This tree needs full sun and watered often in our extreme St. George summer heat. It is fast-growing and low maintenance, which makes it an easy choice for new or mature landscapes. You just can't beat the beauty of those blossoms!
Deodar Cedar
The Deodar Cedar is an evergreen conifer tree that is favored for its graceful, drooping branches and soft needles. Its bluish-green color and nice "Christmas tree shape" are a favorite to look at in the garden.
They are often called "landscape specimens." This conifer loves full sun and should get at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day.
The Deodar keeps its foliage year-round, grows well in our acidic clay soil in St. George, has beautiful, soft new growth each Spring, and grows about 13-24" per year. They reach a maximum height between 40 - 70 ft at full maturity.
A fun fact is that the Deodar tree produces an aromatic oil that naturally deters insects.
